Name: Karishma Kumar
Year: 4th
Major: Biological Sciences
Position: Lead Coordinator
Biography: Being a part of DIM for the past two years has opened my eyes to the many disparities we are currently facing in the medical field. As a returning coordinator and future health care provider, I strive to spread the knowledge that I have gained from this course in order to promote more cultural competence in the healthcare field. In addition to being a coordinator, I am also a research assistant in a neural stem cell institute here at UCI. I am also a part of Student Health Outreach, a community service organization on campus that focuses on volunteering at underprivileged schools in Orange County to spread public health awareness. In my free time, I like to de-stress by playing tennis, hiking, and going to the beach with my friends and family.
What Diversity Means to Me: To me, diversity is so much more than just the qualities of race and gender. I think that diversity encompasses all the qualities that make us unique, either as an individual or as part of a group. I believe that diversity is the learning and accepting of others that are not the same as me.
