Major: Human Biology
My name is Mohammed Umer Abdul Waris and I am a Human Biology major in his my senior year at the University of California, Irvine. Through my education and various involvements, I have become deeply passionate about human rights advocacy particularly in the realm of healthcare, through coalition-building that spans across race, religion, class and region. One such involvement included my time as a part of the Olive Tree Initiative, and participating twice in its conflict analysis and field study trip to the Middle East, the second time as a student mentor. I also participated in UCI UTeach program where I designed a curriculum to impart the essential lessons of the Civil Rights movement. My future career mission includes not simply practicing clinical medicine, but also diagnosing and helping heal the various sociopolitical forces that determine well-being and health outcomes of society.
