Biography: It is a pleasure to be the lead coordinator of DIM for the 2016-2017 year! My team and I have spent countless hours to create the best possible curriculum and experience for the course. Besides DIM, I volunteer my time at the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity to assist in other diversity programs such as DDP. I am a chapter advisor for Friday Night Live at the Santiago de Compostela Chapter. Friday Night Live provides opportunities for positive and healthy youth development. Missions consists of preventing drinking and driving, bullying, and drug abuse. I am also involved in Model United Nations and serve as a substantive director for the UCI conference. In addition, I am a clinical researcher at Dr. Shaista Malik’s Cardiology lab. Our team runs clinical trials to identify early coronary artery disease in patients with diabetes. To balance my life, I enjoy working out, meditating, and listening to electronic music.
What Diversity Means to Me: Diversity is understanding the concept that all humans are equal, but more importantly being aware of the different cultures and social norms attached to each individual. It is important to avoid stereotyping and understanding each human at a personal level. Educating ourselves about health disparities is one great way to reduce stigmas produced in society. To evolve as humans, it is important to unify as one and share each of our own ideas to solve worldwide issues.
